The Edinburgh map (below) shows where Newington Cottage guest house is in relationship to Princes Street (central Edinburgh). Also the Waverley Railway Station is highlighted on the map below and as mentioned earlier we are only 2 km. from Edinburgh city centre. The guest house is close enough to provide easy access up Minto Street, taking buses numbered 3, 31, 36 and others at a cost of approx. 90p, on a 10/15 minute or shorter journey to the city. The same road provides an abundance of taxis going to and from central Edinburgh. Newington Cottage guest house is, however, situated just off the main Edinburgh road, which gives us a quiet location, although still with easy access to all main Edinburgh attractions. If you are driving here from the north, south, or the Airport, approach us from the City Bypass, exiting the bypass at Straiton Junction, follow signs for Edinburgh city centre. Keep to this main road into town until you see the Minto Hotel on your right hand side. You must take the next turn on the right after the hotel, and Newington Cottage guest house is on the right hand side of the first junction: turn right and stop as close to the crossroads as is safe. Having settled in, your options for heading for Edinburgh are bus, walking or taxi. For any of these, it is simply out the front door and along the road facing you, and turn right towards the city centre on Newington Road. If you want to take a bus, cross over to the other side and take any bus saying 'city centre'. Parking - Newington Cottage guest house is in a quiet residential area, very close to Edinburgh city centre, with low cost (£4.00 for 4 hours parking) on street parking. If you are arriving in the city by air or rail, and are planning a few days in the city, hold off until you are leaving before hiring a car. Frank Mickel. 2002 |
